Customs Düsseldorf finds stick swords in a package from China

Düsseldorf.
During the parcel processing, the customs officers noticed a walking stick with explosive content. Only one proceeding awaits the importer.

Explosive find in the Reisholz customs office in Düsseldorf: Customs officers discovered a walking stick with a special inner workings in the parcel processing department. As announced by customs, the strikingly designed walking stick was disassembled in a package from China and was intended for a recipient in Düsseldorf.

One of the parts was a 15cm long, rounded blade that could be screwed onto the pommel and then hidden in the shaft of the stick. In this way, the seemingly harmless walking stick becomes a dangerous weapon in a matter of seconds, explains customs.

This is why so-called stick swords also fall under the Weapons Act: They simulate a harmless everyday object, but are in fact very dangerous. The import of such walking sticks is therefore prohibited.

No daily handling

“That was certainly not an everyday process for the colleagues at the Reisholz customs office. The cane sword is secured and will be destroyed after the procedure is over,” says Michael Walk, press spokesman for the main customs office in Düsseldorf.

The importer is now awaiting criminal proceedings for breaking the ban (importing prohibited items) and for violating the weapons law, according to customs.
