The pod race cult classic comes on the PS4 and Switch
It’s 1999, and on August 19, the Star Wars saga continues after a 16-year hiatus. In addition to full cinemas, there are mostly young fans of the far, far away galaxy in department stores, who are primarily looking for a free controller at a game station with N64, into which Star Wars Episode 1: Racer is flying. Years later, after 3.12 million units had been sold, the title was to establish a Guinness World Record for the “Best-Selling Sci-Fi Racing Game”. Now the probably most popular pod racer game of all time has a chance to take up these memories and successes.
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer starts among other things new on the switch
Aspyr Media, an American studio known for ports, has taken on the cult title and this for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch reissued. According to the developer, however, this is not a pure port of the old classic: the game comes “with some upgrades that would even impress Anakin, including a modernized control system”. “Racer originally came out at a time interesting for controllers (…) Rumble, several analog sticks. Even the shape of the N64 controller,” says producer James Vicari StarWars.com. For the new edition, it was important for the studio to consider the possibilities that Joy-Cons and DualShock 4 offer. Other innovations include a higher resolution and a new trophic system.
Release in May
The new edition of Star Wars Episode 1: Racer for Ps4 and Nintendo Switch will be available on May 12th. With a price of $ 15 – euro prices are still pending – the makers are definitely betting that fans are ready to take the opportunity to get behind the wheel with Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba and Co. Grab bag. By the way: Star Wars Episode 1: Racer is longer for the PC on steam available, here you have to pay 8.19 for the retro racing fun on Tatooine.
