A cruise ship with hundreds of passengers docked this Wednesday at a port near Rome after a woman who said she was positive for covid-19 was removed, without knowing whether the others on board are infected.
“We are very, very concerned,” Hans Rijkelijkhuizen, a Dutch passenger on the Costa Victoria ship, told France-Presse, who was looking for a safe haven after the withdrawal of an Argentine citizen with respiratory problems.
The 726 passengers were placed in confinement in their cabins on Monday after the 63-year-old woman landed on the Greek island of Crete.
“There are a lot of people on board with a fever,” continued the Dutch passenger, 78, who travels with his wife, 74.
He, with fever and a mild cough, received paracetamol pills from the flight attendant, as well as many other passengers.
Rimal Shah, a 56-year-old Brit, who is traveling with 18 friends from London, mostly in their 70s and in poor health, is “very concerned”.
“There is a lot of concern on board. This woman with the new coronavirus walked the boat several days before disembarking,” he said.
Initially, the ship was due to head to Venice, but the frightened passengers asked not to be taken to northern Italy, the part of the country most affected by the pandemic, which caused more than 6,8000 deaths.
