The Konami code is the best known cheat code in computer games. Hashimoto came up with the combination ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B, A, Start in 1986, when the programmer worked on a transfer of the game Gradius on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game console.
The former Konami programmer built in the code as a tool for testing Gradius, because he “obviously couldn’t finish the game”. For unclear reasons, the code remained in the final version of the game.
