In the gallery “Art XO” until May 31 Kristaps Ģelzis exhibition “Artifacts”, which clearly shows the artist ‘s relentless interest in new media. Along with already known works, there will also be those that have not been exhibited before. –
Asked how Kristaps Ģelzis’ works in the exhibition “Artefakti” were selected, art scientist Ilze Žeivate, the head of the gallery “Art XO”, mentioned a very pragmatic reason – the artist had to move from the old workshop to new premises, and then everything that was reviewed for thirty years was reviewed. In the end, twenty-one works, selected between 1985 and 2011, were selected for the exhibition.
The selected set of works represents different techniques, and this is because the artist himself is so diverse, Žeivate explains in the Latvian Radio program “Kultūras rondo”.
Although he started as a graphic artist, Ģelzis has been trying new media since the late 80’s to reveal his idea.
Sketching the scope of the exhibition, the head of the gallery “Art XO” first of all mentions Kristaps Ģelzis’ diploma work, with which he applied as a socially critical artist. It consists of five pages, but only a fifth of it can be seen in the gallery. The most recent of the works not yet exhibited is the 2011 watercolor “I Feel Offended”.
The artist’s texts, such as descriptions of series concepts, as well as sketches, can also be seen in the gallery’s premises.
