Covid rages again, the Netherlands is in an emergency situation

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Covid-19 case in the Netherlands is raging again, so the windmill country implements a partial lockdown. Restaurants and shops there have been asked to close operations by the government.

Dutch interim Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the restrictions were back in place for three weeks. Supermarkets and non-essential shops will close early.

Health protocol measures such as social distancing were also reinstated. The government recommends that there are no more than four guests in each house. This rule will take effect immediately. Cafes and nightclubs must close by 8pm starting this Saturday.

“Tonight we carry an ominous message. This virus is everywhere and must be fought,” in his televised address on Friday night, citing Reuters, Saturday (11/13/2021).

The government is also exploring ways to limit people’s access to indoor spaces, especially for those who have not been vaccinated. However, it still needs parliamentary approval.

The increase in cases has overwhelmed the country’s hospitals. New infections topped 16,000 for the second day in a row beating the previous record below 13,000 cases last December.

Rutte asked his citizens to work from home. It also prohibits visiting sporting events including the Netherlands vs Norway World Cup qualifying match. But schools, theaters and cinemas will continue to open.

This announcement changed many policies in the Netherlands, because from last month the rate of the spike in cases continued to increase despite already high vaccination rates.

Currently, 85% of the Dutch adult population has been fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Orange has recorded a total of 2.27 million cases and 18,695 deaths due to Covid-19.
