COVID hits and vaccinates, but those over 70 die.

COVID-19 infects and vaccinates and there are also victims among these people. But in reality, mortality is many times lower than in people without immunization. And among the vaccinated, the disease is fatal mainly in many elderly people, who also have many concomitant diseases.

These observations of doctors from COVID wards are already confirmed in the statistics, after a month ago the Ministry of Health published detailed data on how the disease affects people with immunization.

A total of 23,316 victims of coronavirus in Bulgaria. Of these, only 250 were immunized against COVID-19, according to data from the Unified Information Portal.

165 of them, or nearly 66 percent, are men. A

However, most of the dead were between 70 and 79 – 94, followed by those between 80 and 89 – 59.

For the most part, people of this age have many additional chronic diseases and the risk of fatal outcome of the disease is very high, even in immunized people. In addition, the picture is not complete, because the Unified Information Portal does not report whether the vaccination of the deceased has been completed, ie. whether both doses have been administered, given that a person develops serious immunity to the virus only 14 days after the second needle.

Nearly half of the dead vaccinated were immunized with the Pfizer vaccine, the data show. At least they are with “Modern”, but in general it is placed less often. 71 of the deceased were immunized with AstraZeneca vaccine and 50 with Jansen.

Although isolated, fatal cases have been reported in younger vaccinated people – 11 in the age group 40-49, 2 in the age group 30-39 and 23 in the age group 50-59.

However, the main share of the dying in our country is the elderly and the unvaccinated, the specialists who accept the growing contingent of patients every day are categorical.

“Usually people who go to intensive care units and, unfortunately, die, are often over 60 years old, have many additional diseases and are not vaccinated,” summarizes the infectious disease doctor Dr. Peter Petrov, who heads the infectious diseases ward at the University Hospital. Saint Anna ”. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been transformed into COVID and takes over most of the emergencies not only from the capital, but also from the district.

The ward itself has 44 beds and all of them are currently occupied, and in recent weeks the corridors of the emergency department at the hospital have been increasingly filled with patients waiting for admission.

However, Dr. Petrov pays special attention to the cases of young people, in whom the disease also develops severely and ends in death.

“Often they come with respiratory failure,

they were ill

already 10 days and

when they come

with us, already

it’s late

We find that the virus has affected a large part of the body and we cannot attack intracellularly because the symptomatic treatment is insufficient “, explains Dr. Petrov.

The infectious disease specialist does not notice large differences between the current and the previous two more serious waves as a way of the disease, except that young people are really affected more often now. It also shows a manifestation of a higher temperature than before.

However, it is clear that a number of factors, including the level of stress and tension to which the body is subjected, as well as whether a person feels mentally well, are also essential for the development of the disease.

If you are currently experiencing negative emotions and stress, you can go through the virus severely, even though you are a physically healthy and trained person, says Dr. Petrov.
