Ieo: Covid in Italy as early as September 2019

If the official entry of the Coronavirus into our country is dated February 2020 and attributable to Mattia, patient 1 from Codogno, today it turns out that the Covid 19 was circulating in Italy as early as September 2019. The confirmation comes from a study ofCancer Institute of Milan and the University of Siena, which has the scientific director as its first signatory Giovanni Apolone, published in the Tumori Journal. Analyzing the samples of 959 people, all of them asymptomatic, who had participated in the screening for the lung cancer between September 2019 and March 2020, 11.6% (111 out of 959) had coronavirus antibodies, of which 14% already in September, 30% in the second week of February 2020, and the largest number (53.2%) in Lombardy.

Fontana: the hospital at the Fiera is our strength

If in the first wave thehospital in Fiera it had hosted few patients and ended up at the center of fierce controversy, in the second wave it is proving to be a fundamental hub, so much so that the number of places available is constantly increasing. And already at the endand next week, more may be active 20 to assist particularly serious Covid-19 patients. “The hospital in Fiera di Milano, that I never wanted to build and use, that considered by some useless today is our strong point. Thanks to the health and nursing staff of all the Lombard hospitals who, moved by a spirit of solidarity, like Dr. Malara (the Codogno anesthetist who discovered patient 1, ed), they have come to carry out their mission even away from their teams, demonstrating how the Lombard health system is one great team! “, wrote the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana on his Facebook profile.

Swab or serological test? When to do it

Unavailable in the first wave, in the second they became the keystone to circumscribe the virus and study its evolution. Swab (or molecular test) and serological tests are indispensable tools for tracing and to better analyze the daily data on the infection, which inevitably are also linked to the number of swabs performed. But what are the differences between the two exams? The buffer is used to diagnose presence of the virus in the body and then to find out if there is an infection in progress. THE serological tests are used instead for the search for direct antibodies against the virus, to understand then if a person is has already come into contact with Covid 19. Here is a vademecum on swab and serological test.
