Immunologist Sai Reddy hypothesizes that combinations of existing coronavirus variants could lead to a new and more dangerous phase of the pandemic.
“Covid-22 could be even more dangerous than what we’re experiencing now,” Reddy warned in an interview with the Swiss website Blick.ch.
The Swiss immunologist also predicts that due to the delta mutation, none of the unvaccinated will avoid the infection. “The viral load of the delta is so large that anyone who has not been vaccinated and becomes infected could become a supercarrier,” Reddy said.
According to him, due to the new variant of coronavirus, we will no longer be able to rely only on vaccines. We are therefore supposed to prepare for the next few years of vaccination, as vaccines will have to adapt to other coronavirus mutations.
In the autumn, he said, the number of cases would increase again and strict restrictive measures would return in many countries.
According to epidemiologist Roman Prymula, however, it is a divination from a crystal ball. “I don’t think there is any basis for something like that. Of course, anything can happen. If a covid-22 were created, it would probably be a common mutation,” Prymula told the TN.cz editorial, noting that the expert for an effort to be visible.
