Covid-19 Vaccine Less Effective Against New Variant in Colombia

Suara.com – UK Public Health or Public Health England (PHE) made a warning by disclosing that people who had Covid-19 vaccine and infected varian Delta still at risk of transmitting it. It even tends to be as contagious as those who have not been vaccinated.

This shows that the Covid-19 vaccine does not prevent the spread corona virus Covid-19 Delta variant as much as expected. Even so, the agency asked people to get vaccinated which is still the best way to prevent infection with the virus.

Dr Jenny Harries, Chief Executive of the UK’s Health Safety Agency, said: “Vaccination is the best tool to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from severe infection with the Covid-19 coronavirus.

“But, we must also remember that the Covid-19 vaccine does not eliminate all of those risks. A person is still at risk of being infected with the Covid-19 corona virus and transmitting it to other people,” said Dr Jenny Harries quoted from The Sun.

According to him, now it is better to be careful because cases are still high. Also, remember that outdoor gatherings are much safer than indoors.

You must also self-isolate after being exposed to a person who is positive for Covid-19. If you experience symptoms similar to the Covid-19 coronavirus, you should also self-isolate and do a PCR test.

Scientifically, the variant of the Covid-19 corona virus found in Colombia called B.1.621. The new variant of the corona virus was labeled “variant in research” by PHE.

“There is preliminary laboratory evidence to suggest that vaccination and prior infection may be less effective in preventing B.1,621 infection,” PHE said.

However, these data are still very limited and more research is needed. There is no evidence to suggest that B.1.621 is more contagious than the Delta variant.

PHE said the variant had mutations that had been seen in other dangerous new strains, including those from South Africa (Beta), Kent (Alpha) and Brazil (Gamma).

PHE said people who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 may have a similar level of risk of being infected with the Delta variant as people who have not been vaccinated.

In addition, the Delta variant is also better able to escape the immunity formed by the Covid-19 vaccine. Research shows that a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is only 33 percent effective against the symptoms of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
