She was involved in helping political prisoners. Since 1974 she collaborated with the Fund for Assistance to Political Prisoners, in 1977-1980 she was the manager of the fund. Participated in petition campaigns during high-profile trials of Soviet dissidents. In 1980, she was forced to leave the USSR following her expelled husband, Soviet journalist and dissident Alexander Ginzburg. After that she lived in Paris, where she worked as deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper Russkaya Mysl.

Arina Ginzburg signed letters in defense of dissidents Gabriel Superfin (1974) and Sergei Kovalev (1976), a statement on Human Rights Day (1975). She was persecuted by the authorities – she was suspended from teaching, her husband’s case was searched, and house arrest was applied to her.

In 1980, Ginzburg was forced to leave the USSR following her expelled husband, Alexander Ginzburg. She lived in Paris, worked as a journalist.

Arina Ginzburg’s husband Aleksadr is a journalist and publisher, a member of the human rights movement in the USSR, a member of the Moscow Helsinki Group, compiler of one of the first collections of samizdat. He died at the age of 66 on July 19, 2002 in Paris.
