Covid-19 Positive Airport Staff, Australia-New Zealand Bubble Travel Goes On

Jakarta

Australia and New Zealand opened a travel bubble, the arrival of citizens from the two countries no longer required quarantine. However, there have been positive cases of COVID-19 at the airport.

An Auckland Airport worker, New Zealand tested positive for the Corona virus on the second day of the travel bubble.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, said the workers infected with Covid-19 had previously been fully vaccinated. He’s in charge of cleaning planes that come from red zones or high-risk countries. According to him, this case had nothing to do with the new arrival from Australia.

The Australian Health Minister, Greg Hunt, also indicated that the case was highly unlikely to affect the travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand. He revealed that the Australian authorities have full confidence in the system New Zealand in dealing with the Corona virus.

New Zealand’s airport divides flights having the Covid-19 red and green zones. The red zone handles international flights, where passengers are directed to managed isolation and quarantine.

The green zone is reserved for domestic passengers and those visiting with free quarantine regulations, namely from Australia, Niue and the Cook Islands.

Ardern said that the Australian and New Zealand governments had anticipated this kind of case when announcing the Travel Bubble. Both Australia and New Zealand know that when the border opens there will be cases on both sides.

“We accept that this will be part of our journey together,” Ardern added.

On the first day travel bubble, 1,800 Australians crossed into New Zealand. At that time, there were happy faces mixed with emotion from the residents who were again able to meet and visit their relatives.
