COVID-19: Outaouais and Ottawa deplore a new death | Coronavirus

The Outaouais is experiencing its most moderate increase in COVID-19 cases of the week with 19 new contaminations reported on Friday.

Since the start of the pandemic, 11,790 people in the Outaouais have so far contracted the coronavirus and 11,302 of them have been cured, according to public health data.

The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (cISS) of the Outaouais deplores a new death attributable to COVID-19 on Friday. This is the 2083e person to succumb to the virus in the region.

Currently, 71 patients with COVID-19 are being followed in one of the region’s hospitals, 22 of whom are in intensive care.

SPO monitors 1,188 active cases in the territory and 24 active outbreaks. This is the lowest number of outbreaks since last December.

A total of 5,606 variants have been identified in Ottawa, the majority of which is strain B.1.1.7., Associated with the United Kingdom. According to public health authorities, the variants are the cause of 45 deaths in the federal capital.

23 more cases in eastern Ontario

In eastern Ontario, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) reported 23 new cases on Friday. There are currently 189 active cases in the region and three ongoing outbreaks.

Since the start of the pandemic, 4,645 people have contracted COVID-19 in eastern Ontario, of which 4,353 have been cured.

The total of COVID-19-related deaths remains stable with 103 victims.

According to BSEO, 11 people are currently hospitalized, five of whom are in intensive care.
