Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The World Health Organization (WHO) reiterates the latest developments on Covid-19. The global health agency revealed that there had been a significant decline in the number of cases globally.
In its weekly report, WHO said that in a week from March 21-27 2022, the number of new cases decreased again. Cases fell 14% compared to the previous week.
“Across the six WHO regions, more than 10 million new cases and more than 45,000 new deaths were reported. All regions reported a downward trend in the number of new weekly cases,” the report said.
Even so, this figure was also offset by the death rate which rose quite drastically. In fact, this increase occurred up to 43%.
“This is likely driven by changes in the definition of Covid-19 mortality in several countries in the Americas Region (Chile and the United States) and by retrospective adjustments reported from India in the Southeast Asia Region,” the WHO wrote.
“As of March 27, 2022, more than 479 million confirmed cases and more than 6 million deaths have been reported globally.”
On a country-by-country basis, the highest weekly number of new cases was reported from South Korea with nearly 2.4 million cases. This is followed by Germany (1.5 million cases), Vietnam (1.1 million cases) and France (845 thousand cases).
“The highest number of new weekly deaths were reported from Chile (11,858 cases), the United States (5,367 cases), India (4,545 cases), Russia (2,859 cases) and South Korea (2,471 cases),” the UN agency added.
