Covid-19. Nova SBE student in Carcavelos infected. Campus is closed

According to a statement from the institution, the Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE) at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in Carcavelos (Oeiras), learned during the night of a positive result to the test to COVID-19.

This is a student of Portuguese nationality, who, “after a period of vacation abroad, he returned to Portugal earlier this month, from a country that was not yet referred to as an area for active transmission of the virus”says the note.

The student is, so far, asymptomatic and remains in quarantine.

According to the university statement, the Contingency Plan of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa was immediately launched to combat the covid-19. The facilities of the entire Campus of Carcavelos were closed during the night and will not open this Friday. “The subsequent contingency measures that are to be determined by the competent authorities are expected to be applied,” says the institution.

However, people who have had close contact and who lived in the school environment with the student are already being identified. “All members of the community have already been duly informed via email of this situation and the closure of the Campus. They were asked not to go to the Campus and to wait for new information, which will be provided during the day of Friday”, concludes the communicated.

Nova SBE’s teaching activities continue to operate in the form of distance learning, as it had already been adopted by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa since 11 March.
