Coronavirus Tuscany, the data of 23 August: 59 new cases, 7 recovered, no deaths

Florence, 23 August 2020 – Sono 59 new cases of positive people al coronavirus (17 identified in the course of tracing and 42 from screening activities) detected in Tuscany in the last 24 hours. New cases are 0.5% more than the previous day’s total. The average age of the 59 cases today is about 34 years and, as regards clinical conditions, 65% were asymptomatic. Of today’s 59 positives, 11 cases can be linked to returns from abroad, of which 1 for reasons of vacation (Spain), plus 3 contacts from recent returns (2 Malta, 1 Croatia). 11 cases can be linked to returns from Sardinia, 4 from other Italian regions. 1 case refers to a citizen residing outside the region whose positivity was notified in Tuscany. 25% of the cases are a contact linked to a previous case.

Tuscany is confirmed in 10th place in Italy in terms of number of cases (including residents and non-residents), with about 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (Italian average about 428 x100,000, yesterday’s figure). The provinces of notification with the highest rate are Massa Carrara with 577 cases x100,000 inhabitants, Lucca with 384, Florence with 342, the lowest Livorno with 157.

Overall, 938 people are in isolation at home, as they have mild symptoms that do not require hospital care, or are symptom-free (46 more than yesterday, plus 5.2%). I’m 2.292 (48 fewer than yesterday, 2.1% less) people, also isolated, in active surveillance, because they have had contact with infected people (Asl Centro 1.144, North West 747, South East 401).

There are currently 42 people admitted to beds dedicated to Covid patients (6 more than yesterday, plus 16.7%), 7 in intensive care (1 more than yesterday, plus 16.7%).

People altogether healedand there are 9.056 (7 more than yesterday, plus 0.1%): 121 people clinically cured (stable compared to yesterday), that is, who became asymptomatic after presenting clinical manifestations associated with the infection and 8,935 (7 more than yesterday, plus 0.1%) declared cured at all effects, the so-called viral healings, with double negative buffer.

Today there are no new deaths. They therefore remain 1,139 have died since the beginning of the epidemic divided as follows: 417 in Florence, 52 in Prato, 81 in Pistoia, 174 in Massa Carrara, 145 in Lucca, 91 in Pisa, 63 in Livorno, 50 in Arezzo, 33 in Siena, 25 in Grosseto, 8 people died on the ground Tuscan but were residents outside the region.

The Tuscan raw mortality rate (number of deaths / resident population) for Covid-19 is 30.5 x100,000 residents against 58.7 x100,000 for the Italian average (11th region). As for the provinces, the highest mortality rate is found in Massa Carrara (89.3 x100.000), Florence (41.2 x100.000) and Lucca (37.4 x100.000), the lowest in Grosseto (11.3 x100.000).
