Dengue: 10,500 suggestive cases since the start of the epidemic

The spread of the virus is widespread throughout the country. Over the past few weeks, we have seen a rebound in the number of new confirmed cases in most municipalities in southern Martinique. The current meteorological conditions are favorable to the development of peri-domestic larval sites; It is essential to be extra vigilant to avoid any aggravation of the situation.

Martinique remains in Phase 4 level 1 of the PSAGE dengue fever: epidemic confirmed.

The dengue epidemic continues to intensify in Martinique with nearly 1120 clinically suggestive cases seen in city medicine in week 2020-33. This is the highest value recorded since the start of the epidemic. During the last 4 weeks, an estimated 3,150 patients consulted a private general practitioner for suspected dengue fever, or 30% of all cases identified since the start of the epidemic (10,500).

3,065 biologically confirmed cases

The weekly number of new biologically confirmed cases remains high with 479 cases recorded between weeks 2020-31 and 2020-32. This figure could change further with the latest data transmitted by analytical laboratories. The trend is therefore clearly towards a significant increase in the number of new confirmed cases in recent weeks. In total, since November 4, 2019, 3,065 biologically confirmed cases have been notified, including 34% of cases under the age of 18. The average age of the patients was 34 years [min: 0 ans ; max: 95 ans]. For the same period, a co-circulation of serotypes DENV-3 (81%) and DENV-2 (17%) was characterized. Since the end of May, 12 (2%) DENV-1 have been identified by the CHUM virology laboratory.

During the last four weeks, we have observed a spatial repair of confirmed cases of dengue, in almost all the municipalities of Martinique. The distribution in the municipalities of central and northern Martinique continues. The municipalities of Fond-Saint-Denis, Le Prêcheur and Grand-Rivière have not reported any confirmed cases during this period. In Basse-Pointe, the incidence rate is less than 5 cases per 10,000 inhabitants. There is also an increase in cases in most municipalities in the south of the island. Only three municipalities in the south (Anses-d’Arlet, François and Vauclin) have an incidence of less than 10 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.
