Since the middle of the week, La Poste has informed its customers that “because of the epidemic crisis linked to the coronavirus”, it was suspending the sending of parcels to China “until further notice”. An announcement that sparked some indignant reactions, in part because it is not complete …

The coronavirus epidemic from China continues to have consequences that few would have suspected at the time when the crisis really started worldwide in January. In France, after the repatriation and confinement of nationals settled in China, it is La Poste’s turn to have to take an unprecedented, forced and forced measure.

She made the announcement, confirmed nationally, this Thursday, February 20: “Due to the epidemic crisis linked to the Coronavirus, the sending of letters and parcels to China are suspended until further notice”, is it indicated on a poster relayed by users on social networks.

The news caused a lot of questions, some wondering if the reasons for this measure, which was really implemented on Monday, February 17, were health. In reality, this is not the case, as confirmed by the French company.

These are in fact logistical constraints which prevent La Poste from sending letters and parcels to China: there are simply no longer enough freight flights in circulation. “As a result of the epidemic related to the Coronavirus, the airlines are forced to sharply reduce their import capacity to China”, specifies La Poste on its Twitter account, adding that “the remaining capacities are now dedicated to transport sanitary products “.

“We have no choice, there are no more flights devoted to this kind of transport,” the company confirmed. “Consequently, we will withdraw this option to send all our automats until further notice. We have no idea, nor any visibility, on the time during which this measure will be maintained.”

In the same way and for the same reasons, letters and parcels from China, they are likely to suffer significant delays.
