The Tennessee Titans conquered the title in the South Division of the American Conference. All it took was for Derrick Henry to surpass 2,000 yards on the ground and for rookie Sam Sloman to hit a field goal with great success.
Sloman crashed the ball into one of the posts. However, he entered, for a 37-yard field goal with which The Titans beat the Houston Texans 41-38 on domingO.
Henry rushed for 250 yards, the most in his life, in the game that gave Tennessee (11-5) his first divisional title since 2008. The Texans (4-12) suffered their fifth loss in a row.
Tennessee nevertheless needed his passing attack in order to set the stage for Sloman’s field goal. An AJ Brown reception contributed 52 yards, moments after a 51-yard field goal by Houston had tied the score with 18 seconds left.
Next weekend, the Titans will host Baltimore (11-5).
Henry finished the regular season with 2,27 yards rushing, a franchise record. He is the eighth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards.
He passed Chris Johnson, who had achieved 2,600 in 2009.
