LThe pandemic has claimed at least 411,588 lives worldwide since its onset in December in China, according to an assessment by the AFP from official sources Wednesday at 11:00 GMT.
More than 7.25 million cases have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories. The United States is the most affected country, with 112,006 deaths. This is followed by the United Kingdom with 40,883 deaths, Brazil (38,406), Italy (34,043) and France (29,296). In Belgium, 9,629 people died from coronavirus.

The top three countries where the pandemic is progressing the most are the United States, Brazil and Russia, according to an AFP ranking of the 10 countries that reported the most cases in the past four weeks.
The EU towards reopening
The European Commission will publish its proposals for a lifting this week “Progressive and partial” travel restrictions at the EU’s external borders from July 1, Vice President Josep Borrell announced on Wednesday.
For its part, Austria will reopen its border with Italy on June 16, closed since March, and lift controls with 31 countries excluding Sweden, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
