Less pressure on resuscitation services

In the Nièvre, no new point this Friday, May 8. Thursday, there were no additional deaths within the regional hospital grouping (all Nivernais hospitals except that of Clamecy). Short-stay resuscitation beds are no longer occupied by Covid patients. 23 residents are, however, still hospitalized in the Covid area in the follow-up care and rehabilitation service of Colbert Hospital, in Nevers.

Two new people tested positive on 15 new tests in GHT. This represents 275 positive people since the start of the epidemic out of 1,501 tested. Denis Thuriot, mayor of Nevers and president of the committee of elected officials of the GHT specifies however that he does not yet have the return of the tests of the Ehpad of Château-Chinon where a person has been diagnosed positive. In addition, a suspicious case was detected at the Luzy nursing home. All residents and staff are also being tested there, about 200 people.

185 people who were hospitalized are now cured (+3).

“The Nevers agglomeration hospital is preparing to welcome more people under secure conditions for everyone, including for the testing of hospital patients,” said the mayor of Nevers. “In addition, a drive will soon be installed to test outdoors, in a car park at the hospital, under the aegis of private laboratories”.

Clamecy hospital is part of a group with Auxerre, Tonnerre and Avallon, in Yonne. “This is a so-called third-line hospital in the fight against the coronavirus,” explains Claudine Boisorieux, former mayor of Clamecy and still president of the hospital’s supervisory board, while waiting for her successor, Nicolas Bourdoune, take office. “It can accommodate patients who require medical supervision but does not have an intensive care unit for the most serious cases”.

The Clamecycois hospital thus has six beds dedicated to welcoming people affected by the epidemic. If the condition of these patients worsens and requires resuscitation, they are transferred to Auxerre or Nevers, depending on the places available. No death from the coronavirus was deplored in the upper Nivernais.

Fewer patients come to Nevers emergency room: doctors worry

In Burgundy-Franche-Comté, the Regional Health Agency announces this Friday again a significant drop in the number of hospital patients and a significant increase in the number of patients discharged from hospital. This is good news for Nièvre, because it is this occupancy rate of the Region’s resuscitation beds that determines the red color of the department. For Pierre Pribile, the director of ARS, “It’s a matter of a few days” so that the Region goes green, given the decline recorded in recent weeks.

The decrease in the number of patients admitted to intensive care, however, tends to stall when the deconfinement measures are put in place. Respect for precautionary measures (barrier gestures, social distancing, wearing a mask in certain situations) will be crucial to preventing any risk of the epidemic resuming and putting the health system under stress, the ARS said in its press release.

This Friday, 1,011 hospitalizations were recorded in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté for severe forms of Covid 19 (38 fewer in one day), including 115 in the intensive care units. Eight additional deaths were reported, that is to say a total of 914 deaths in health establishments; 2,764 people were discharged from hospital, 62 more. The region deplores 631 deaths in medical establishments-social, including 612 in Ehpad.

Why is Nièvre placed in the “red” departments?

Contact tracing: from Monday 11 May, if a person thinks they have symptoms of the coronavirus, they will have to contact their local doctor, or, failing that, the 15th who will redirect them to an available doctor. The doctor, if he considers the symptoms consistent, will order a test for the patient and other people in his household. They must then remain confined for 8 to 10 days.

Health insurance will identify people who have been in contact with the patient during their incubation period and will contact them by phone to inform them of the situation. These people will also need to stay confined and monitor their temperature twice a day. As for the ARS, it will remain vigilant regarding the grouping of positive cases to identify possible clusters.

Education: the Rector of the Academy of Dijon encourages the return to school, even if it is not compulsory. 80% of schools in the Region will reopen. “It is an educational, social, psychological and economic imperative,” she argued.

As for the calendar, the pre-school year will go well on May 11 and 12 for teachers and administrative teams. It will aim to discuss the past period and plan the organization of classes. On May 14, it will be back to class for the pivotal levels, namely the large section, the CP and the CM2. But some small rural classes, if they are ready and the sanitary conditions are met, may also reopen on May 12. There will be no more than 10 students per class in kindergarten and no more than 15 in elementary. Priority will be given to dropout students and students with disabilities.

Schools reopening on May 14: a headache for Nivernais mayors

Colleges and high schools will not reopen for the time being. “The situation will be reassessed at the end of May to consider reopening on June 2,” hopes the Rector, who is working in this direction. “Until then, educational continuity continues”.

All the students who stay at home will be divided equally between the different teachers. It will therefore not necessarily be the pupil’s usual teacher who will follow up. “But a bit like when a sick professor is replaced by another,” said the Rector.

The ARS did not communicate the deaths in medico-social establishments until April 3. These figures were not updated on April 4 and 6, April 12 to 22, April 24 to 28 and May 1 to 7.
