Coronavirus incidence on the rise in France

The head of the Ministry of Health of France Olivier Veran

The Minister of Health predicted that a new wave of infection will cover the country at the end of this month.

For the fifth day in a row, the French authorities have recorded an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection, especially the Delta strain of Indian origin. About this on Sunday, July 4, the head of the country’s Ministry of Health Olivier Veran wrote в Twitter.

“Over the past five days, the spread of the virus has not decreased, but only intensified. This is due to the highly contagious variant of Delta,” the message said.

Veran also said that a new wave of coronavirus is possible at the end of July. Therefore, he added, in order to mitigate the consequences of it, citizens need to comply with restrictive measures, be vaccinated and take tests for infection.

“After vaccination, we become much less infected, we transmit much less (coronavirus – ed.) And no longer live under stress. Achieving herd immunity is a collective challenge, let’s do it together!” – the minister urged.

According to the latest data, 5.8 million people were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 in France, of which 5.6 million have overcome the disease and more than 111 thousand have died from complications. In terms of incidence, the country is in fourth place in the world after the United States (35 million cases), India (30.5 million) and Brazil (18.8 million).

Veran previously stated that proportion of strain Delta among those infected with coronavirus is growing and accounts for 20% of new cases detected.
