The coronavirus in Belgium led to new measures on Friday to limit its spread. Checks have been carried out since this afternoon to detect non-essential movements.
Controls have been organized since Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the country’s border crossings to detect movements deemed non-essential as part of the containment measures related to the fight against the spread of the coronavirus. Travel to second homes on Belgian territory is also prohibited, announced the cabinet of the Minister of the Interior Pieter De Crem. “Tourist trips to Belgium, in particular are prohibited and border controls will now apply”said the minister’s office.
According to Mr. De Crem (CD&V), each infraction will be strictly penalized. The Federal Coordination Committee (COFECO) headed by the Crisis Center is responsible for implementing these measures. “Travel to second homes in Belgium is also prohibited. The federal police and local police areas are responsible for the application of this measure”, said the Minister of the Interior.
