Coronavirus: Berset wants to reopen hairdressers then schools – Switzerland

Should we reopen shops or schools first? The Minister Alain Berset has decided. It will first be some businesses and then primary schools. At least that is what several German-speaking media say on Wednesday.

According to the “Tages-Anzeiger”, the Berset plan has three phases.

1 / From April 27, Berne allows the opening of certain businesses focused on service to people. This would include hairdressers, physiotherapists but also garden centers, even DIY stores. It is very likely that ambulatory medical examinations at the hospital will be authorized again.

2 / From May 11, Bern allows partial opening of schools. According to the “Aargauer Zeitung”, we would start with primary schools. Not necessarily with the whole class but probably in separate groups. Then we would extend the opening to higher levels of education. According to the Blick, operations in the hospital could resume in mid-May. All retail trade would also be legal again.

3 / From June 8, cafes and restaurants may be allowed to reopen. But the “Blick” estimates that it will be rather in July, even in August. There would also still be no clear agenda for authorizing large gatherings, whether concerts or sporting events.

This summary three-stage plan by Berset still needs to be refined, discussed and no doubt modified by the Federal Council this Thursday. A press conference is scheduled for the afternoon to announce the decisions.
