Giant fear of the corona virus!
The most important mobile phone fair in the world threatens to become a ghost show. The list of cancellations at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona is getting longer!
Latest withdrawal: Sony! Last year, the technology giant presented its new flagship smartphone Xperia 1 at the fair. The Japanese company is now voluntarily foregoing the large audience.
Sony: “Because we attach great importance to the safety and well-being of our customers, partners, media and employees, we made the difficult decision to withdraw from participation.”
Instead, the mobile phone manufacturer now wants to present its new products on YouTube on February 24th.
These companies have already canceled
It’s not the first rejection out of corona fear!
Amazon, LG, chip manufacturer Nvidia and the Swedish mobile communications group Ericsson have already canceled.
Market leader Samsung is also worried about the virus. The manufacturer wants to travel with significantly fewer employees than planned.
Trade fair organizer GSMA had originally expected more than 100,000 visitors to the MWC. Despite the many company withdrawals, the operator also wants to hold the event as planned.
Nevertheless, the GSMA had to act!

The organizer told the BBC that he had taken additional measures to “assure attendees and exhibitors that their health and safety is our primary concern.”
The GSMA not only increases the hygiene measures, but even banned participants!
Nobody is allowed to come from the Chinese crisis region of Hubei – to which Wuhan belongs. And: Anyone who has been in China has to prove that they haven’t been there for 14 days.
