The 7,700 corona vaccination appointments for the coming week, which were given today, were booked out within twelve minutes. The Ministry of Health now wants to straighten the process.
“We feel pretty fooled,” wrote an NDR 1 Welle Nord listener from Kiel on Tuesday morning. The over 80-year-old tried to get an appointment on the homepage www.impfen-sh.de and at the same time on the two hotline numbers at exactly 8 a.m. On the Internet it was put on the waiting list at position 18.393, after five minutes the message came that all appointments had been taken. A listener who has been trying to arrange a vaccination appointment for her grandmother for several weeks has had similar experiences.

SPD: “A very special kind of imposition”
Criticism comes again from the SPD parliamentary group in the Kiel state parliament. The social policy spokeswoman, Birte Pauls, speaks of a “very special kind of imposition” in the award procedure. Many people would now give up and wait until the family doctor can vaccinate against corona. That is why Paul’s Minister of Health, Heiner Garg (FDP), calls on people to think again. He should ensure that the people who can now be vaccinated are invited in writing with an appointment.
Hotline only for people over 80
The procedure in Hamburg is similar. There, too, people would then have to make an appointment themselves, said Garg on Tuesday afternoon in the studio of NDR Schleswig-Holstein. The Ministry of Health led by Garg wants to stick to the previous practice in principle. However, a small change is planned for the coming week: Until the beginning of February, only people over 80 years of age should get appointments via the telephone hotline. The ministry announced on Tuesday.
Nursing staff or employees of the rescue service should be able to book the other appointments online later in the day – no longer by telephone. According to the ministry, the procedure should be straightened out.
Garg: The main problem is the shortage of vaccines
The next vaccination appointments can be booked in a week (19.1.) From 8 a.m. today. An extension of the bookable dates depends on the availability of the vaccine. As long as the basic problem of the scarce vaccine remains, there will be no fundamental solution to the vaccination appointments, said Garg. 325,000 Schleswig-Holsteiners, who are among the first vaccination priority, are only 7,700 vaccination appointments per week due to the vaccine shortage, according to Garg.
Mobile vaccination teams increased
The mobile vaccination teams that vaccinate residents and staff in nursing homes who are willing to vaccinate in accordance with the nationwide prioritization were increased by four more vaccination teams. For example, 19 mobile vaccination teams are now on the way to stationary care facilities on behalf of the state. Nurses at these facilities can also be vaccinated after registering with the facility.
Moderna vaccine reaches SH
According to the Ministry of Health, the first 2,400 doses of Moderna’s corona vaccine, which reached Schleswig-Holstein on Tuesday, are to be used for hospitals and their staff authorized to vaccinate. The delivery of a total of 38,400 Moderna cans to Schleswig-Holstein is planned by the end of February.
The EU Commission approved the US manufacturer’s vaccine last week. It was the second corona vaccine approved in Europe after the one from Biontech / Pfizer.
