But no mask obligation at the MeLa agricultural fair

Visitors to the MeLa agricultural fair in Mühlengeez (Rostock district) no longer have to wear a mask. As a spokesperson for the State Farmers Association said, this requirement was suspended in the state crown ordinance for MeLa. One reason is that the agricultural fair takes place largely outdoors. The MeLa is the largest fair in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It takes place from 8 to 11 September.

The Greens of Lower Saxony want to use the Corona special funds elsewhere

According to the Greens, Lower Saxony should also use its special Crown billionaire fund to alleviate the energy crisis. The parliamentary group wants to present a bill to the budget committee on Wednesday that would broaden the purpose of use to include the “consequences of the Russian aggressive war against Ukraine in Lower Saxony” and extend the duration of the special fund by two years up to end 2024. According to the Greens, about three billion euros out of eight of the special fund were still available in the spring. This money “does not belong in the savings stockings of the finance minister,” said Gerald Heere, parliamentary director of the Greens. Like the corona pandemic, the energy crisis is “an emergency situation that makes another exception to the debt brake absolutely necessary.”

Bed occupancy in hospitals in 2021 lower than 2019

The number of beds set up in hospitals in Germany remained virtually unchanged in 2021, despite Corona. According to the preliminary results of the Federal Statistical Office, the number of 483,532 beds corresponded to the level of the previous year, as announced by the authority. According to information, the number of treatment cases and bed occupancy in 2021 was well below the pre-coronavirus level: 16.7 million hospital treatments were recorded in 2021 – in 2019 it was 19.4 million . Bed occupancy was 68.0% in 2021 – in 2019 it was 77.2%. Statisticians say that the reason for the decline in these numbers during the corona pandemic, when there was widespread talk of a “health system overload,” was that “planned” treatments had been postponed and many people likely avoided hospital stays. Some of the information is provisional figures that have not yet been definitively assessed.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, a further 6,494 crown cases have been reported in the state of Lower Saxony. The seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is currently 288.5 – and therefore slightly higher than yesterday (285.2).

BGH negotiates travel cancellations

At the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) there are today three cases related to vacation plans that exploded due to the corona pandemic. Plaintiffs had withdrawn from booked cruises or package tours. The question is whether they were entitled to free cancellation or whether the organizer is entitled to a portion of the travel price. The plaintiffs were successful in their respective district courts. The Supreme Court is now reviewing the rulings. According to the law, the customer does not have to pay cancellation fees if “extraordinary circumstances” “significantly affect” the trip. The Karlsruhe judges should now clarify in principle which of the many travel cancellations due to Corona met this requirement. It is unclear if they will announce a decision today. In a first case of Corona travel law, the Senate involved the European Court of Justice (CJEU) in early August.

RKI: seven-day incidence nationwide at 247.3

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gives the seven-day national incidence this morning was 247.3. The day before, the value of new coronary infections per 100,000 population and week was 242.8 (previous week: 288.5; previous month: 578.1). Health authorities in Germany reported 54,504 new corona infections to RKI in one day (previous week: 60,411).

Note on current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infectious situation. Experts assume a large number of cases not registered by RKI, mainly because not all infected people have performed a PCR test. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. Furthermore, delayed recordings or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases throughout the week.

The incidence of the crown in Schleswig-Holstein drops to 255.7
