Intensive care physician warns of the third wave of infections in January

The head of the Association of Intensive Care Physicians, Uwe Janssens, has warned of a third wave of corona infections through visits at Christmas. “Only maximum contact restrictions can prevent us from getting a third wave in January,” Janssens told the “Rheinische Post”. “We intensive care physicians urgently ask people not to visit grandma and grandpa at Christmas, but really to stay at home.”
The head of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) sharply criticized the politics of the federal states. The worsening of the situation goes back to the hesitation of the prime ministers, who for weeks had not drawn any conclusions from the steadily increasing number of infections, said Janssens. “Only 600 people had to die of Corona a day that a rethink and the introduction of radical measures took place – actually too late,” complained the doctor. “As a consequence, the nursing staff in the hospitals will have to endure heavy loads during the Christmas holidays but also afterwards.”
