Why did Parliament approve a third amendment to the Reproductive Health Grant Agreement? Know the answer

During its last session, the House of Representatives approved the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Decision No. 473 of 2020 regarding approval of the third amendment to the aid grant agreement between Egypt and America regarding improving health outcomes for target groups.

The third amendment to the grant aid agreement aims to provide a new amount of $ 10 million for the project as an additional contribution from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to continue achieving the project’s goals of supporting family planning services, reproductive health, improving selected health behaviors, and supporting planning and decision-making policies.

The committee’s report indicated that family and population planning programs have received the attention of the state in order to activate Article 41 of the Constitution, which stipulates that the state is committed to implementing a population program aimed at achieving a balance between population growth rates and available resources.

The report indicated that the Egyptian government was keen on advancing the family system and reproductive health, and therefore it agreed to an aid grant agreement between Egypt and America on improving health outcomes for the target group on 9/26/2017 and approved by Parliament on 3/7/2018, which aims to support Egypt’s current program to organize Family and reproductive health to make it more effective and sustainable by improving the quality of family planning services and subsidized reproductive health and supporting the activity of the family planning program in Egypt to make it more efficient and continuous, as well as supporting the activity of the Demographic and Health Survey in Egypt, which works to collect, analyze and publish high-quality data on health and population. The committee stated in its report that the political leadership is keen to upgrade the health system in Egypt and therefore negotiated an increase in the amount of the first batch of the grant from 6 million dollars to 11 million and 36 thousand US dollars under the first amendment of the agreement that was made on 7/24/2018 and a second amendment to the agreement was signed. By adding an amount of 10 million and 50 thousand US dollars on 4/8/2019.
