Corona is less of a burden on the 2021 state budget than feared

The corona pandemic apparently tore less deep holes in the state budget last year than initially assumed. The deficit of the federal, state, local and social security funds was 3.7 percent in relation to economic output, as the Federal Statistical Office announced today. In a first calculation, the authority had put the minus at 4.3 percent.

Hamburg: New vaccination centers at the airport and in Harburg

From May this year there will be two new vaccination centers in Hamburg. According to information from NDR 90.3, contact points are planned in the north and south of the city: one at the airport and the other in the Harburg Arcaden. At both locations, around 1,000 people per week should initially be able to be vaccinated – if demand increases, more than 12,000 vaccinations should be possible in the centers. In addition, mobile vaccination teams should continue to be on the road in the city, but not as many. The social authorities expect around 700 vaccinations per week there.

Head of the crisis team: Corona vaccination target will not be reached until April

The goal of 30 million more corona vaccinations originally targeted by the federal government for the end of January will probably not be achieved until the beginning of April, according to estimates by the corona crisis team. This was said by the head of the body, Major General Carsten Breuer, of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “If vaccination progress continues as it is now, then it would be projected to be in early April by the time the next 30 million vaccinations are completed.” The crisis team wants to reach vaccination skeptics with an information campaign that is as uniform as possible, he said. Only 148,000 vaccine doses were administered in Germany on Tuesday, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). On Tuesday a week ago, more than 191,000 people had been vaccinated.

The Netherlands are largely lifting corona measures

As of today, almost no corona restrictions apply in the Netherlands. The Corona health pass, with which the Dutch had to prove that they had been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative, will be abolished. The distance and mask requirement is no longer applicable in most places, it only applies in public transport, train stations and airports. In addition, there are no restrictions on the opening hours of bars and nightclubs. The entry bans for several non-EU countries are lifted. However, travelers from EU countries must still provide proof of vaccination or a negative test.

In the Netherlands there had been repeated violent protests against the corona measures. Other European countries have also announced extensive easing or – like England – have already implemented them. In Germany, as part of a three-stage plan, most of the corona restrictions are to be lifted on March 20th.

Panorama reports on radical corona deniers

Many people who commit crimes related to Corona during the pandemic have not previously appeared to the police – like Joachim T. The NDR TV magazine Panorama reports that the 37-year-old proudly published his first work on his Facebook in July 2020 -side: a small, yellow boat, a so-called Benchy – a model that he made with his new 3D printer. When the police searched T.’s apartment almost a year later, they found much less harmless printed matter: gun parts and ammunition everywhere, even in the bathroom tools for making firearms. A 3D printer was still in operation. Joachim T. was arrested. The man from Rhineland-Palatinate had become radicalized during the corona pandemic.
