Manufacturer AstraZeneca delivers more vaccine

The vaccine manufacturer AstraZeneca will now deliver more doses of its corona vaccine to the EU. The company will bring forward its deliveries by a week and has promised to increase the number of vaccination doses by around nine million vaccine doses, the EU Commission said in the evening. This means that around 40 million cans will be made available in the first quarter. Originally, double the amount was planned. The EU had criticized AstraZeneca for apparently continuing to supply the UK and other non-EU countries with unreduced quantities. She suspects that the group is actually exporting vaccine doses intended for the EU to third countries.

High expectations before the vaccination summit from the federal and state governments

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) wants to discuss improvements in corona vaccinations with the prime ministers of the federal states today. Several federal ministers, representatives of the vaccine manufacturers and the EU Commission, which buys vaccines from various manufacturers for the entire EU, are also to take part in the video conference. The deliberations are expected to begin at 2 p.m. Several prime ministers and associations such as the German Association of Cities called for clarity about the amount and timing of vaccine deliveries so that vaccination centers could plan better. The vaccinations in Germany and the EU had started shortly before the turn of the year. The first few weeks were accompanied by delivery problems from individual manufacturers, problems with making appointments and a lot of resentment about the lack of a vaccine.
