Corona is going crazy, WHO teases the wayward young people

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaWorld Health Organization (WHO) officials cite one of the causes of the increase in positive cases of corona virus (COVID-19) in a number of countries because young people ‘weaken their defenses “.

That is, young people want to return to normal life and not follow strict health protocols. They also consider this virus harmless because the risk of death of young children is low when contracting.

“We have said it before and we will say it again, young people are not invincible,” said WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as compiled from CNBC International, Saturday (07/31/2020). “Young children can be infected, young children can die and young children can transmit the virus to others.”

Tedros Adhanom added that convincing young people around the world that the corona virus could pose a serious risk to their health remains a challenge for WHO.

Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the WHO’s zoonosis and disease unit, said the majority of young people tend to have milder symptoms of Covid-19, but that is not always the case. Some young people are seriously ill and die.

“Even people who have minor ailments, some of them will recover well. But some of them have long-term effects, and we are just starting to really learn about this,” he said, adding that some suffer from extreme fatigue, shortness of breath or difficulty continuing normal activities such as returning to work or the gym – even after they recover.

“We are learning what that means,” he said.

Kerkhove said there are a number of things young people can do to prevent the spread of the virus, including washing hands, practicing social distance, wearing masks and avoiding crowded places like bars.

“We consistently see night clubs as transmission boosters,” he said. “It is unfortunate to know that young people want to resume normal activities. But there are situations where viruses, if any, can be arrested and transmitted efficiently.”
