The managing director of Borussia Dortmund have been sharply criticized. In a special program of the ARD sports show, Watzke had the topic corona voiced. The criticism of many fans: Watzke would downplay the topic and see the profit of the Bundesliga clubs in the first place. In addition, some fans in Watzke’s statements recognized a lack of solidarity towards the smaller Bundesliga clubs, which are particularly badly hit by the crisis.

With a monthly fixed salary of almost 160,000 in the 2019 financial year, this would correspond to around 53,000 euros a month, which Watzke would do without. The BVB boss himself did not comment on the topic.
Many complainers among the fans may say that even after waiving such a sum, Watzke really does not have to switch from butter to margarine. But the measure taken by the managing director of Borussia Dortmund would be a strong signal in the corona crisis.
