Corona and tourism: model regions to start in April | NDR.de – News – Schleswig-Holstein

Economics Minister Buchholz wants to get model regions in the country up and running as quickly as possible. There should be exceptions to the corona rules.

Although it is certain that there will be no nationwide relaxation of the Corona regulations for the time being, there could soon be exceptions to the rules in individual areas. Precondition for this are very specific hygiene conditions and the models should be locally limited with project character. Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP) would like to see model tourism projects of this kind in Schleswig-Holstein – cities, municipalities and entire districts have been able to apply since Thursday. “We want to prove that tourism is feasible in a responsible manner,” said Buchholz.

Low incidence is essential

To be a model region, the region should have a relatively low seven-day incidence. In addition, the municipality, the city or the district must prove how the guests and also the staff can be tested regularly and there must be digital contact tracking. The small step towards normality should also be scientifically accompanied. According to Buchholz, more than 15 regions already want to try the model. It will be exciting to see how many applications will actually be received by the April 7th deadline. A decision should then be made within a few days so that the first model projects in Schleswig-Holstein can start on April 19. After the end of the Easter business, according to Buchholz, many companies in lockdown are about to survive.

Model projects also planned in culture and sport

But not only tourism is burning for the restart. Model projects are also possible in other areas. The city of Kiel, for example, announced at the beginning of the week that it would like to enable a theater premiere with an audience. And the ministry responsible for culture is currently working on a plan of who can implement such model projects and under what conditions. More details will be announced next week. This also applies to sports. The Ministry of the Interior is currently working on the framework conditions.

Cities, municipalities and districts welcome model projects

The City and Community Day considers model projects to be a good idea. In this way, important experience could be gathered in order to prepare area-wide openings. There is great interest in the model projects among municipalities across the country. Sönke Schulz, chairman of the district council, shares this assessment. But he points out that these are limited projects “to test what works and what doesn’t”. Schulz hopes that the framework conditions will be clarified as quickly as possible so that it is known how many projects there will be. “I think there is an opportunity to learn from these model projects,” said Schulz. The question remains whether citizens accept the offers despite restrictions such as tests and masks so that it also pays off economically.
