Dean of the CMP in favor of the requirement of the vaccination card against COVID-19 with three doses for people over 40 years of age

Pediatrician Raúl Urquizo, dean of the Medical College of Peru (CMP), commented on the lifting of the curfew and the requirement of card with three doses for people over 40 years in closed spaces.

“The curfew had to be withdrawn a long time ago because it did not meet the objective of keeping people from getting infected. That measure they took for the New Year has not prevented people from getting infected, people have still gathered in more closed environments and suddenly more hours for the curfew be at 11 pm and they woke up. It was a wrong measure from our point of view. The curfew in other countries no longer exists, rather what has to be done is for families to have self-control: use of masks, keep distance, go to get vaccinated, not be in closed places, avoid meetings,” he commented.

In the case of the requirement of the driving license vaccination with three doses for those over 40 years of age, Dr. Urquizo stressed that this type of measure is necessary in the country to promote two-dose vaccination and booster shots.

“In December, when they wanted to reach the goal of 80%, they extended the hours and demanded that you couldn’t enter any place if you don’t have the vaccines. I believe that it is a measure that has helped more than 80% of the general population already have their two doses and reinforcements. Still the boost is at 26%. I think there is no way in the country that if you are not required so that people comply and protect themselves, so we are going to avoid deaths and illnesses, the hospitals are saturated. It is true that ómicron is less serious, but people are becoming more infected, “he stressed.

HIGH CONTAGION OF MEDICAL PERSONNEL

Dr. Urquizo explained that as CMP they are still waiting for the Plenary Session of Congress to debate and approve the Law of double perception for doctors.

“In hospitals and first-level health centers there is a high rate of contagion among medical personnel. […] Unfortunately, to this date, Congress has not approved the Double Perception Law, because we are running out of doctors. […] This Law implies that a doctor can work in Social Security, in the Minsa, his 150 hours. In the provinces there are no specialists, who is going to attend?” he added.

VACCINATION OF CHILDREN BETWEEN 5 AND 11 YEARS OLD

Dr. Urquizo congratulated the beginning of the vaccination of children between 5 and 11 years of age, but stressed that it is important to change the schedule strategy so that everyone can access the vaccine, without putting at risk the health of parents who stand in long lines outside the vaccination centers.

“It is good that it has started (the vaccination against COVID-19 of girls and boys), but it seems unfair to me that parents have to get up early and be there at 4 am The Minsa should reschedule, extend the hours, but they cannot sacrifice parents because they can get infected while waiting for the vaccine for their children. They have to modify that strategy immediately,” he added.
