Here, however, there is a big problem, which Continental seems to be aware of. Electric cars are heavier, so when they brake hard, sometimes regular brakes are not enough for them. This is precisely why models like the Tesla Model S Plaid would melt their brakes after a few turns on the circuit and then be extraordinarily inferior. Continental says it knows electric cars are heavier, so the new thinner brake discs are larger in diameter to stop heavier cars more effectively. But further, due to the reduced amount of metal and the smaller thickness, they will overheat. In other words, the new Continental brakes promise to be effective in some emergency braking, but not in advanced exploits on a circuit, or suitable for a sportier model.
