Best Cat Health Insurance 2021 – Forbes Advisor UK

In August 2021, we examined nine insurers with 20 tariffs for cat health insurance. Using a questionnaire, we asked, evaluated and weighted more than 35 criteria. The aim was to filter insurance companies in different price ranges with the best service package in each case. All information is from the survey and may not be available at this time.

We looked at these categories in detail:

price and price development

We determined prices for various test animals and compared them with each other. We also looked at how much the prices increase if you want to re-insure older animals. This data point also serves as a proxy for price increases for current tariffs. Some insurers will increase prices as pets get older, but usually no more than it would cost to re-insure the older pet. Where possible, we have used the prices without deductible for the evaluation. Since some insurers have different prices for different breeds or types of husbandry, served as a test animal a British Shorthair cat, both indoors and outdoors, in the age groups 12 weeks, 4 years and 8 years. We excluded tariffs that showed an above-average price jump after one, four and/or eight years or were more expensive than our best overall package. (15% weight)

contract

Here we have checked whether certain breeds cost more, whether there is a free choice of veterinarian and whether the veterinarian can be billed directly and whether there is a deductible. The duration of the contract, the period of notice and whether there is also insurance cover abroad were also checked here. We have excluded tariffs with more than 20 percent mandatory deductible. (15% weight)

assumption of costs

Here we asked whether there is an annual health flat rate (flat rate for preventive services that are usually not covered by health insurance, see FAQs) and which treatments are covered at which GOT rate. We have excluded tariffs that contribute less than 50 euros to health care for cats. (25% weight)

Exclusions from Benefits

Here we looked at whether previous illnesses, genetic/congenital diseases such as hip or elbow dysplasia (HD/ED, see FAQs) and breed-specific diseases such as brachycephaly (see FAQs) are excluded. We also compared whether a veterinary report is required to conclude a contract and up to what age animals are accepted. (10% weight)

sum insured

In this category we have compared the various sums insured for treatments and operations and also checked whether there are any benefit limitations in the first few years. We have excluded tariffs with performance limitations that fell below the actual premium or were disproportionate to the premium. (25% weight)

waiting period

Here we checked whether there are waiting times for insurance claims in the areas of accidents and illnesses. (5% weight)

Service

Here we looked at what times the service hotline can be reached, how invoices can be submitted, how long the refund takes, whether there is an app and whether the contract can be made online. (5% weight)
