During the conversation, the Head of State asked Rika how teaching and learning activities were carried out during this pandemic.

“We have had six months of learning activities for these children through learning online until now. What do you think? “Said the President.

Rika, who also serves as the Student Affairs Representative at the school, said that teaching and learning activities were still running.

However, online learning has made it a little difficult for him to monitor the learning progress of his students directly.

“We can’t monitor whether the child is capable or not. Because we can’t (meet) in person, Sir,” said Rika.

Next, the President asked whether all students or their parents had a device that could be used to support online learning.

Rika answered that some of her students were initially unable to take part in online learning because they did not have smartphones.

However, the school finds solutions and facilitates these students to be able to use the facilities the school has.

“Incidentally we have the correct data on their children, then we check their children at home. We are not able to. So we facilitate going to school, sir. Using the school computer. There are some people, not many,” he said.

To motivate her students, Rika is accustomed to contacting students via video calls or voice messages.

From his conversations with his students, most students want to return to their activities at school immediately.

“Sometimes I do video call or I send it to use voice note. Only the children say this, so they miss all of school, “he said.

“Yes, I have heard everything is like that,” said the President.

At the end of the conversation, Jokowi then asked if there were any suggestions he would like to convey to him or to the Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim.

Rika also suggested that face-to-face schools could reopen.

“We want to be face to face, if possible, sir. Maybe we can share each shift the entry is not much. If that’s possible, “said Rika.

“Because it’s a pity, sir, the children don’t know, many don’t. I sometimes cry, sir. Especially for children whose parents cannot afford it. They have Android but don’t have a quota,” said Rika.

Jokowi also said that studying at school face-to-face was good. However, it is currently too risky to expand the spread of Covid-19.

“Indeed, it would be nice to meet face to face, but during a pandemic like this there is a risk that if the child is exposed to Covid-19, everything will go wrong. Mrs. Rika remains enthusiastic, remains enthusiastic. Greetings to the children,” said Jokowi.
