Comprehensive testing in Slovakia is over, over three million people have come

Comprehensive testing for coronavirus in Slovakia is over. According to the plan, the sampling points closed on Sunday at half past nine in the evening after two days.

As stated by the portal tvnoviny.sk, over three million people were tested by noon on Sunday, of whom 30,000 are positive for covid-19. This was confirmed by the Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovič.

The full data is still being collected, the government should publish it on Monday. “In order to get closer to 100% participation, a total of 3 would have to come for testing 750,000 people, “said Defense Minister Jaroslav Naď. This means that the participation was already 80 percent at 12 o’clock.

There was probably more interest in testing on Saturday, with two and a half million people coming all day. On Sunday, according to incomplete data, over half a million. Slovakia has a population of five and a half million.

At the sampling sites, they worked with antigen tests, which, unlike more widespread PCR tests, show the result within a few minutes. But according to experts, they are not so accurate.

Widespread testing was to take place in the Czech Republic as well, and the government eventually withdrew from the plan. However, antigenic tests are used to test 200,000 older people from nursing homes. Their first delivery arrived in the country on Sunday (read more here).
