Coman shattered the old club’s dream – Bayern won the Champions League – VG

(PSG – Bayern Munich 0-1) He was raised at the club for nine years, but left it as an 18-year-old after disagreements with the management. Six years later, Kingsley Coman (24) decided the final of the Champions League against Paris.

– It’s an incredible feeling. I am very happy, but also sorry on behalf of Paris. It hurts my heart a little, but I am a 100 percent Bayern player, says Coman to RMC.

The French winger’s winning goal, which secured Bayern Munich’s sixth triumph, will remain a painful symbol of PSG’s first final loss in the tournament: The Qatar-owned club has spent close to 14 billion kroner on player acquisitions since the 2011 acquisition, and it is these massive investments which led to Coman failing to envision a future in the star-studded squad when he broke through as a teenager.

He came to the club as a 9-year-old, his father is a big PSG fan, he became the youngest ever debutant for the club as a 16-year-old, but in 2014 the winger refused a professional contract with the parent club. Instead, he signed for Juventus without PSG receiving a single euro in transfer fee.

– I did not feel good in the squad. There was too much difference between us young boys and the others. These were separate groupings. It was not easy to adapt. When you are in that situation, it is tempting to look around for something else, Coman later explained to RMC.

The road would later go from Juventus to Bayern Munich. And while the world’s two most expensive footballers, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, abused their chances for PSG in the crowdless final in Lisbon, Coman took good care of the opportunity he was given.

Just before the hour was played, the 24-year-old was allowed to stand alone and hit the ball in goal after a precise post by Joshua Kimmich. The celebration was not marked by sympathy for the club he dreamed of playing for as a child.

– Killing for PSG to be lowered by one of its former academy stars, writes Jonathan Johnson, expert on French football, on Twitter.

Coman was a constant nuisance for PSG right-back Thilo Kehrer and proved worthy of trust after regaining his place in the starting line-up by coach Hans-Dieter Flick, who thus wrecked Ivan Perisic.

The election was a success for the Bayern Munich boss, but it could just as well have gone the other way: PSG misused several great opportunities before the break, especially by Neymar and Mbappé, who were both stopped by a solid Manuel Neuer in the Germans’ cage.

Bayern retained control of the match for a long time after Coman’s goal, but in overtime Mbappé played forward Neymar, who had his finish stopped in front of goal.

A few minutes later, that brass stood crying with his head on the shoulder of a comforting David Alaba. The shattered star arrived at the stadium in Lisbon carrying a loudspeaker and dancing to Brazilian party music, but probably plays sadder tones after a night where he never showed his best side.

– We feel like shit. It becomes difficult to sleep, it is difficult just to talk. We will try to get back to the final. We will not throw what we have done in the trash, says PSG’s midfielder Ander Herrera.

Bayern Munich became the first team since Manchester City in 2016 to keep a clean sheet against PSG in the Champions League. They are also the first team ever to have won every match on their way to becoming Champions League champions.
