Each club can apply to the local government to receive more spectators. That must then make a proposal to the sports minister and that is Ben Weyts for Flanders. He will then take a final decision on the basis of advice from a virologist, among other things.
It is important that the clubs adhere to the protocol that the minister has drawn up together with the Pro League. In concrete terms, it is stated that queues are out of the question, each bubble must be 1.5 m away from the other, separate time slots for inflow and outflow, specific signaling, mouth mask obligation, disinfectants available free of charge, maximum 400 people per closed compartment, and so on.

“With this framework we can slowly pick up the thread again. Major sporting events such as football matches bring people together, add color to life, encourage sports … Efforts are also being made in other countries to organize events with the public again”, says Weyts. .
Why should it not be possible in Belgium? “If we lag behind, we will declare ourselves the main breeding ground for corona. If we want the Flemish to remain motivated to adhere to the many measures, we must also offer positive perspectives.” Empty stadiums do not necessarily have to be part of our football for a very long time.
