“You can’t leave a man like Johnny”
“We can’t help but talk about Johnny. Yes, because it has been a traveling companion since the scopitones (jukebox associating the image with the sound, note) ”begins Claude Lelouch. Then he continues, “I knew him when he was 16-17 years old, when he became a star I made his first scopitone ‘The idol of the young people’ and we never left each other”. Visibly moved, Claude Lelouch continues his praise to his missing friend, “We cannot leave a man like Johnny. We cannot leave a child who has all the talents and who has remained a child all his life… Who had reactions of child and who had an extraordinary sixth sense ”. Then he adds, “It was an animal that smelled absolutely everything”. When Michel Drucker asks if he “understood everything before everyone else”, the director says, “Right away. But then it is true that sometimes he had trouble explaining it and it was there that he became sublime. Sometimes he tried to explain the inexplicable and that’s when some people allowed themselves to make fun of him ”. A very nice tribute from Claude Lelouch.
