I may be wrong, but Ajax usually budget about 15 million in European income in a year that no direct placement has been enforced, as was the case last year.
Normally Ajax estimates an amount that corresponds to wintering EL (so that 12 to 15 million)
If Ajax for example become champion this season and one is therefore completely sure of 30/35 million, that amount can of course be adjusted upwards.
I do not know the budget for 2020/2021, but I cannot imagine that Ajax, with Corona still in full view, has budgeted 25 or 30 million this season for European Football income … maybe someone knows that budget or has seen.
If Ajax also (and there is a good chance) to book the transfer of Ziyech, Zeefuik and Botman in the 2020/2021 financial year, a gross 55 million will soon be added.
Van de Sar indicated 2 to 3 months ago that Ajax must take into account the worst scenario of 60 million euros in terms of operational costs by Corona.
This is if we cannot admit an audience for a whole year, sponsors lose out and maybe CL is missed.
It is far from that yet … but that enormous damage will be suffered by Corona is certain.
I expect those operational deficits to be between 30 and 35 million this season.
Ajax will have to compensate those shortages with Extra income from CL and transfer profits.
We still have this transfer period, the upcoming winter transfer period and the transfer period from May2021 to July 1, 2021 in which guys like Donny, Andre, Nico, Botman, Dest, Magalan, Marin, Alvarez, Johnsen can still be sold. Moreover, it is of course not possible to estimate how much Ajax will earn in the CL. Last year it was 55 million (without 2nd round placement, and even 90 million the year before)
All in all, no reason to panic right away … I even think that Ajax will be one of the only clubs in the Netherlands that will close this and next financial year with a profit.
That is why it is quite clever what Overmars does .. takes the pressure off the boiler, dampens the expectations with regard to Suarez or other purchases, but will certainly continue to look in the background for reinforcements and / or bargains, because given Corona a lot of clubs MUST. selling and that offers opportunities for clubs with some reserves
