Christmas market in Moers: dealers are satisfied

Moers.
Dealers and organizers draw a very positive balance for the Christmas market – even if the number of visitors has decreased by up to 40 percent

Martina Kehlen had topped up the large display of her hut at the weekend with the small and large handmade elves. “It’s a great souvenir for Christmas,” says Kehlen. She hoped that the visitors to the Moers Christmas market would strike again on the fourth weekend in Advent. After all, not only is Christmas getting closer, but also the end of this year’s Christmas market.

The market closes on Wednesday. So far, Kehlen has drawn a very positive balance for the past four weeks. “I am satisfied, although the visitors were quite cautious. Many people strolled through the Christmas market, but not that many stopped, ”says Kehlen. She can’t quite understand it: “People should be happy that there was a Christmas market despite Corona and that they should support it.”

A trader a few wooden huts down the road saw it a little differently. His handicrafts went well over the budget counter. “I can not complain. Of course you notice the effects of the Corona because there was a lot less going on, but it was better than nothing, ”he says. Rudolf Edling, chairman of the Moers district showmen’s association, received similar feedback. “I hear from all the showmen that they are very happy to be able to earn money with their own hands again,” reports Edling, who himself sells potato pancakes at the Christmas market. The 2G rule was well accepted by the public. “Many visitors even showed their proof again unsolicited at the individual booths,” explains Edling.
