Chinese restaurant closed, owners cannot go home due to Corona crisis

“Closed due to circumstances,” you can read on the front door for almost a month. The parents of Luoxin Luo left for China in a hurry. Grandma’s health (93) deteriorated rapidly. Unfortunately they came too late to say goodbye: she had already died. “It was so sudden. That is very sad of course,” Luoxin knows.

Corona virus
Her parents were to return from the small mountain village in eastern China last week. Only the corona crisis in China got worse than expected. Even though the two are healthy, they are not allowed to leave the village. “Almost nobody is allowed in or out. That is of course very annoying.” Various access roads are monitored and are blocked with concrete blocks. “It is of course very understandable that they take it for granted.”

“You feel powerless. I can do virtually nothing for them from here,” she knows. She keeps in touch with her parents through her telephone. “I am worried. I still think they will be well protected against the virus.”

Carnival
Luoxin does not intend to keep the business running temporarily. “I can’t cook as well as my parents,” she laughs. The unexpected closure costs the family a lot of money. “Especially now with carnival, that is the busiest and most enjoyable period of the year.” During the pub crawl in the village, she wants to start selling snacks to limit the damage.

The daughter was afraid that people in the village would misunderstand the unexpected closure. “You are afraid that people think we have that virus. Fortunately that wasn’t too bad. Everyone in the village is very sweet, understanding and helpful.” She is therefore annoyed by racist remarks on social media against Chinese Dutchmen.

It is still unclear when her parents can come back and the case will open again.
