The Moroccan cities of Rabat and Casablanca will have to host the first clinical trials of the vaccine developed by Chinese laboratories Sinopharm. These tests are planned at the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Rabat and that of Casablanca, then at the military hospital of Rabat.
Dozens of volunteers were chosen for this first experience. This will involve carrying out clinical trials with the participation of the university hospitals of Rabat and Casablanca, then the military hospital of Rabat. According to Hespress, these clinical trials are the result of bilateral cooperation between Morocco and China in the fight against the Coronavirus.
Convening the recent exchange between the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Hespress, who returned to the strong cooperation relations between the two countries, indicated that Morocco will send a team of researchers to coordinate with Chinese experiences related to Covid-19. Also according to the newspaper which quotes diplomatic sources, “this cooperation will allow the kingdom to obtain the sufficient quantity of the anti-virus vaccine in the event of emergence of positive results, for the clinical trials”.
The advantage for Morocco of participating in these clinical trials is that they guarantee the kingdom priority over the acquisition of the vaccine. “The third phase, which also begins in Morocco will involve around a thousand volunteers and will allow researchers and scientists to collect data on the efficacy of potential vaccines to obtain final approvals and licenses before moving on to the manufacturing phase”, indicated Hespress.
Also according to the newspaper, clinical trials of this vaccine have entered the third phase in the United Arab Emirates, as part of a partnership with Sinopharm. In addition to China and the United Arab Emirates, Peru and Argentina are also participating in the design of this potential vaccine against the Coronavirus, the newspaper continues, which indicates that the Chinese President has assured that once the vaccine is developed and used in China, it will become a global public good, with a priority on Africa.
