Chile exceeds 267,000 cases of COVID-19 and registers higher number of deaths

Authorities of the Ministry of Health of Chile recorded 4 406 new infections of COVID-19, raising the total number of cases to 267 766, while 279 deaths registered in the Civil Registry were counted, the largest number since the new death accounting was implemented in early June, bringing the deceased to a total of 5,347 people.

Regarding hospital capacity, there are currently 2,090 ICU patients; 1,741 of them connected to mechanical fans. Within the latter, there are 419 people in critical condition.

Regarding the amount of equipment available at the country level, the Ministry of Health put the available mechanical ventilators at 267; 694 high flow oxygen therapy equipment and 304 anesthesia machines.

After the daily balance, the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, was consulted regarding the statements of the Minister of Science, Andrés Couve in a report for the local magazine Qué Pasa regarding the evaluation that the government of Sebastián Piñera would be doing to participate , in addition to clinical trials for a Chinese coronavirus vaccine, in tests for vaccines from Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

“The science minister is exploring with a team of experts to see the possibility of exploration of other vaccines that are under development in European countries such as Germany and England,” said Undersecretary Daza.

“They are working hard to see the possibility of also implementing the work of other vaccines in our country,” added the health authority.

With the new data released by the Ministry of Health this Saturday and when compared to the global records handled by the American Johns Hopkins University, Chile continues to be the seventh country worldwide with the highest number of cases of COVID-19 and the third in Latin America.

Regionally, Chile is only surpassed by Brazil, a nation that has 1,274,974 cases and Peru presenting 272,364, just under 5,000 more infections than the southern country.
