A 55-year-old Libyan asylum seeker forced two police roadblocks in a stolen car in the early hours of Friday in Chiasso (TI). An officer had to use his weapon to stop the vehicle.
The police were notified shortly before 1 a.m. of the theft of a car by two individuals. A search device was immediately set up by the cantonal police, with the support of border guards and municipal police of Chiasso and Mendrisio, indicate the public prosecutor and the cantonal police.
During his flight, the Libyan forced two roadblocks, “endangering the lives of the agents and damaging two patrol vehicles”. After a third car was struck, an officer fired a shot, which allowed the car to stop.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested. He will be prosecuted for theft, endangering the life of others, serious violations of the law on road traffic, driving despite an incapacity, violation of obligations in the event of an accident, violence or threat against the authorities and impediment to perform an official act.
His accomplice, who was able to get out of the vehicle shortly before it was intercepted, managed to escape.
