Chartres traders closed their shop later this Friday evening

Forty downtown merchants opened their doors until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020, an hour more than usual, more often than not.

The Les Vitrines de Chartres merchant association proposed this unique operation, entitled “Happy Hour shopping in the city center”.

The objective is “that customers can shop until the time to go to the restaurant and finally celebrate the opening of bars and restaurants. A large part of the Parisian clientele and beyond the department moves to Chartres and they are used to opening a little later, “said the association.

A gentle resumption of activity in the shops of Chartres

The fairly cool and gloomy weather this Friday evening did not prevent some customers from taking advantage of this additional hour in the shops. This is the case of Martine and Madeleine, retired: “We passed a decoration shop and we entered. It is good to be able to shop after 7 pm, especially on Friday and weekends.”

This operation can help instill new habits

Alexias, manager of this decoration shop, located at the beginning of rue de la Pie, underlines: “We just bought the shop and we opened on May 30th. This operation can allow us to breathe new habits. “But there is time. It is also a question of encouraging the initiatives of the Vitrines de Chartres, which were involved during the confinement. We are also thinking of openings on Sunday morning.”

A night to extend shopping in Chartres

Léa has been an apprentice for two years in a ready-to-wear boutique located on rue du Soleil-d’Or and who is participating in the operation. It specifies:

“This initiative can be added to the efforts we are making to recover what we lost during the two months of confinement linked to the coronavirus. I left the doors of the shop open to let passers-by know that we are closing at 8 pm. But time is not on the cards, and that doesn’t really help. “
