A fire destroyed on Wednesday night dozens of houses in the jiron Callao 900, in the Chaparral human settlement, near the Monserrat police station, in the Lima Fencing.
Thirty units of the General Fire Department came to the scene to attend to the emergency that started at 8:30 pm and was controlled after 10:30 pm According to residents, the incident originated in a house that sold gas clandestinely .
Next to the human settlement there is a large house that is used as a garage and behind it, a lumber yard that was also affected.
Fire Commander General Larry Lynch noted that no one injured and people living in the charred houses have already been evacuated. A firefighter was removed on a stretcher because he suffered a fall while doing his work.
Dozens of families who have lost their homes and belongings remain in Plaza Monserrat while they wait for the fire to be controlled.
Likewise, Lynch indicated that the emergency had started in a building that worked as a warehouse for highly flammable products and that it was difficult for them to control the incident. “Work is really difficult for us right now,” he said.
In addition, he informed that the Fire Station requested the support of Sedapal and the Municipality of Lima to have an adequate water supply.
